County Commissioner: Doug Conkey
Commissioner Doug Conkey (Republican) is serving his first term as a Clay County
Commissioner representing District Two. Doug was born and raised in Foxboro,
Massachusetts. After graduating from Foxboro High School in 1980, he attended
the United States Naval Academy, graduating with merit in 1984. Doug
immediately started flight school in Pensacola, Florida, receiving his Wings of
Gold two years later in Meridian Mississippi. Doug served as a Navy Pilot (A-7E
and F/A-18) for 21 years in different locales retiring as a Commander. His
tours exposed him to the disciplines of operations, maintenance, safety/risk
management, administration, program management, personnel management and team
management and leadership on a local, regional, national and international
level. After retirement in June 2005, Doug became a real estate agent with
Watson Realty. His present term runs from November 2006 to November 2010.
Doug, Gretchen (his wife of 21 years) and two daughters (Megan and Elizabeth)
have resided in Orange Park since 1990. Doug’s family is very active in
equestrian activities. They are members of the First Coast Hunter Jumpers
Association and North Florida Hunter Jumpers Association.
